So yesterday I got the “brilliant idea” to groom and bathe my dog, Godiva. I am not sure what possessed me to undertake this monumental task, I am thinking maybe its cabin fever related from this horribly cold snowy weather we have been having! I almost hate when its grooming time for her because she is so soft and cuddle like a real life teddy bear…but anyway, I got out the grooming kit and started to work.
I will say she was exceptionally good during the hair cutting extravaganza that was taking place. I started with her head and ears and then gave her a break (and me one from sitting on the floor before I could not stand up or walk). Oh and it was also due to the fact she has SO much curly hair that the clippers started getting heated up so they need a little down time too. At this point I thought ‘what on earth did I decide to groom her myself’ and considered taking her to get completed elsewhere but did not want to walk in with a half groomed pet LOL.
Once the clippers cooled off I removed the screws and cleaned out the dog hair that was stuck in them and sprayed them with some cooking spray. They revived them and I went back to work. In the next sitting I cuddled her and did her belly and back. Then another short break before we did the paws and legs. Whew! Talk about a “before and after picture” (and she still was refusing to look at me for her after shot).
Then it was bath time. I mixed 2 cups of warm water with 1/4 cup Dawn dish washing liquid and 1/2 cup vinegar. I coaxed her into the bathroom and picker her up and put her in the tub. Well if she wasn’t giving me dirty looks for the haircut you should have see the look I got when the water hit her!
When I was done massaging the homemade dog bath concoction into her hair and skin I rinsed her off then towel dried her with a microfiber very absorbent towel. When I opened the bathroom door she ran all over the house like a maniac running on everything she could find and would not even look at me when I called her!
So today, freshly cleaned she went outside. Yep — played in the mud puddle but only enough to get her paws messy and came tearing into the house leaving me this trail of footprints to mop up! So, Godiva has gotten her revenge on me for making her clean and pretty! Touché my pretty puppy… touché!
